AMERICAN HORNBEAM
Carpinus caroliniana
This variety of Hornbeam is known for its smaller size and beautiful fall colors which range from yellow to bright orange. It is also more cold-hardy than others of its type. Other common names include 'Blue Beech', 'Ironwood', and 'Musclewood'. The latter name comes from the smooth sinewy trunk.
